The USD Index made multi-year highs in 1986, 2000 and 2016, coincident with long-term peaks in the US stock market. Peaks in the USD Index have corresponded with long-term turns in the gold market and we are observing another multi-year reversal now unfolding.
While US dollars flowed into the US economy and stock market during the bull run since 2009, the trend is now reversing and the USD is setting up for a multi-year decline. Gold should be a key beneficiary.
